Liquid Rubber Roofing

Liquid Rubber is a unique product with a successful track record in the North American market for over 20 years, where the extremes of temperature are much more challenging than in the UK. Liquid Rubber provides an easy to apply, seamless waterproof membrane that meets the ever increasing requirements of environmental and health and safety considerations, with particular reference to roofing.

As a roof covering, Liquid Rubber has many advantages over the other roofing materials; its ease of application being the main advantage, also flexibility and ability to be joined in sections.

Benefits of Liquid Rubber as a Flat Roofing System

Liquid Rubber can be applied to almost any surface as long as that surface is sound and dry. Originally designed for use as a glue, the military adopted Liquid Rubber to line water tanks when on manoeuvres.

No wonder as it’s not only completely impervious to water, but also totally inert, so the water runoff is safe to drink, however I wouldn’t advocate it!

Types pf Flat Roofs Liquid Rubber is Used For

We find it most applicable when there are many obstacles on a roof such as:

  • Skylight windows.
  • Air conditioning units.
  • Tank housings.
  • Metal staircases.
  • Chimney pots/stacks.

There are 3 different types of liquid rubber:

  • Spray on.
  • Brush or roll on.
  • Trowel on.

Spray on Liquid Rubber is used when a large area of roof is to be covered quickly. Up to 800m² of roof can be covered in one day by a small trained crew, and because of the ease of application, the cost is kept to a minimum.

Brush or roll on Liquid Rubber roofing is an option for smaller roof areas – up to about 500m². It has to be laid in two coats, and because of it being a water-based product, in good weather condition both coats can be laid on the same day. Again this brings the cost of application down and makes for a very efficient job, costing less than you would expect for a product of this quality.

Trowel on Liquid Rubber is used for filling large cracks and voids. Before applying Liquid Rubber, all of the above-mentioned Liquid Rubber products can be reinforced using a geomembrane. This instils greater strength whilst maintaining flexibility.
