Is This a Warm Roof or Cold Roof?
This new felt flat roof is about five years old; venting has been added to the roof as it’s a cold roof however it was found that the roofers put the new flat roof insulation on the top and formed a warm flat roof.

This video shows me testing the vapour barrier when we did a job late last year. A primer for the vapour barrier is recommended if you are going to glue down over the top of a surface that not sound and should also be used if its cold. It sticks very well sometimes too well if you let it touch itself you have to throw it away as you just won’t get it apart.
New and old ways of fixing flat roof insulation. As the warm roof market has progressed standard ways of construction are starting to develop. Fixing down the insulation with long metal screws and or screw nails is becoming a thing of the past.
I have recently had a new GRP flat roof done to my home.It was also insulated at the same time with 100mm KingSpan, which was laid on OSB-3 and a vapour barrier. Then on top of the KingSpan, another layer of OSB-3 boards, then the GRP.
The old London roof with an internal box gutter has its problems, when first designed it solved the problem of what to do with drainage water from a slate or pitched roof in a crowded town environment.
I have a 3 tear old cold flat roof with celotex insulation and ventilation layer. The roof is standard felt with minimal chippings. When it rains it is really irritating as, I’m guessing, the ventilation layer acts as an amplifier.
I have a cold flat roof, tar and gravel with R13 insulation between the rafters, built in 1960. A 4/12 pitched roof has been added without removing any of the tar and gravel.

Without knowing anything about my roof, how do I know if cold or warm? House built in 1920 and previous owners have no clue as to what I am asking. They only know that it was re flashed 10 years ago, and on flat roofs, not much to re flash so not sure what they are saying.
