Without knowing anything about my roof, how do I know if cold or warm? House built in 1920 and previous owners have no clue as to what I am asking. They only know that it was re flashed 10 years ago, and on flat roofs, not much to re flash so not sure what they are saying.
Can you confirm whether (in order to meet building regs) lead flashing is required over the top of the up stands? I noticed in a video you used the term ‘self terminate’? Also, should the ‘fleece’ be cut into the wall as you would normally see with lead flashing?
I have watched a few of your videos in regards to flat ‘warm roofs’ on YouTube and have found them to be of great guidance with my current new build extension. Accordingly, I would be most grateful if you would answer a couple of questions that I have regarding your video posted on YouTube entitled ‘Thermal Bridging of a insulated flat roof through the front fascia’.
We appointed builders to refurbish the entire building, you will have noticed that I put roofers in inverted commas previously because these workers are good with bricks and mortar but I came to realise too late that roofers they weren’t!
The repair or the replacement of a garage roof is basically still the same as a flat roof over a house, the economies of scale kicks of make the cost of the new garage roof seam more expensive than the roof over the house. inferior materials are often used on garage roofs just to keep the cost down, this leads to a shorter lifespan and more regular replacement of the roof normally by the next owner of the house.
Well this video shows warm and cold roof construction and links to a real re-roof we did in Chiswick, we changed the insulation in the flat roof from between the joists (Cold roof construction) to on top of the joist (warm roof construction) at the same time we stop the roof ventilation from flowing into the now “Warm roof ” and placed more ventilation into the existing cold roof areas.
Last year we bought a barn that was converted in the 1980’s. It already has foil-backed insulation in the roof but only 35mm and we would like to increase this – without taking the roof off, as it’s simply too expensive.

I can attend the property and carry out repairs to the main roof around the solar panels and the area around the skylights for the sum of £220+vat normally repairs will work and last for over 6 months however I cannot guarantee to firstly find the exact problem and secondly if I find it guarantee it will last, however using some of today’s new roofing products we have a great success rate.
I’m looking to give this flat some warmth as it freezing in winter and a green house in summer. I also would like to put two skylight windows on the roof to release the heat in the summer, as well as replacing the windows front and back with something that slides or fold inside to release the heat.
