Kemperol v210 Box Gutter

Flat roof insulation and a liquid applied roof finish, not a liquid rubber but a material called Kemper. Forming a box gutter on a flat roof can be complicated; we now use the Kemperol v210 System. Kemperol v210 stays flexible for the lifespan of the roof. Liquid flat roofing materials are superb for use on flat roofs and box gutters that have lots of detail. If you have ever worked with mineral felt, just think how hard it would be to dress the felt inside this box gutter!

Badly Made Flashing Detail On A New Flat Roof

This flat roof is not an EPDM roof, it’s a TPO flat roof. The roof is in North London and is around 1000m²; it’s a new flat roof, but there are several problem areas on the roof, most of which are down to other contractors not being vigilant. However some of the problems are down to the joints in the material not being made correctly.

Part L1B of Building Regulations and Flat Roofing

A lot customers have never heard of Part L of the Building Regulations and I find myself explaining these regulations all the time, so I have uploaded this video and hope that it helps anybody looking to find out more. Part L and flat roofing are becoming more and more tied together. We always try to form a warm roof for our flat roofs, we find that a warm roof construction for flat roofing is by far the best flat roof.

Kemperol Self-terminating System

Kemper is a liquid flat roofing membrane, it is not an EPDM rubber liquid. Kemper is a liquid resin that’s impregnated into a fleece fabric to give it depth and strength. As it’s a liquid flat roofing material it is easily applied to roofs with lots of detail on them. If we were to use a sheet roofing material e.g., sheet EPDM rubber, we would have to cut and patch the rubber in lots of different places, thus taking away the properties of using sheet materials.

Warm Roof / Cold Roof

What is a warm roof? What is a cold roof? In this video I show a warm roof construction on a flat roof that has gone wrong, I show how a warm flat roof should be built and how a cold flat roof should be built. The term “Warm Roof” acutely refers to the space under the roof insulation and not the roof itself. The same applies to the term “Cold Roof”.

Liquid rubber being laid over ply and felt. If you watched video 1 you would have seen the felt being fixed to the ply now you can see the liquid rubber being laid onto the ply and over the green mineral felt, the next video shows me ripping all the felt off the ply also shows the liquid rubber being stretched and taken of the ply.

Rotten Water Tank on Flat Roof

This flat roof has been covered with a single ply flat roofing membrane. It’s a TPO and not an EPDM single ply. The water tank on the flat roof is in a unbelievably bad state of repair; the lid to the water tank has rotted away and is falling into the tank so the water must be compromised!

New EPDM Flat Roof Problems

This shows what can happen if the roofers are not trained in the flat roof material they are laying. The roofing market is now being flooded with good flat roofing materials, however if the roofer laying your new flat roof is not trained correctly the roof will not last.

Ply decking with torch on felt being applied over the top, ready for liquid rubber coating. When dry, I remove the liquid rubber and the mineral felt from the ply decking, showing how good the bond of the rubber is to the ply and the mineral felt.
